Women United

Women United of the United Way of LaPorte County has undertaken the lofty goal of eliminating generational poverty in our communities. Using a two-prong approach, we will help stakeholders and professionals increase their understanding of poverty, its causes and its effects, and the role each of us can play in removing the barriers for those who are caught in the spiral into poverty and/or the resulting cycle of generational poverty. Secondly, we will train local advocates to provide workshops in our community for individuals and families struggling to transition out of poverty.

Women United is the fastest growing affinity group at United Way. Offering opportunities for giving is not enough. Women United members want to be engaged, know where their money is going, and how they directly are making an impact in their communities.

We hope you will join us in this endeavor by becoming a Women United member. Membership is open to all United Way of LaPorte County Leadership Givers who donate at the $1000 level or more annually and designate their gift to Women United
(a minimum of $500 for women under 35 or retired).

Premiering on HBO on March 18, 2013, American Winter is a powerful and timely documentary that follows the stories of eight families struggling to survive in the aftermath of the Great Recession, and reveals the impact of cuts to social services, the decline of the middle class, and the fracturing of the American Dream.
