American Red Cross LaPorte County Chapter
Shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies more than 40 percent of the nation's blood; teaches skills that save lives; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families.
  • Armed Forces Emergency Services - Provides emergency communication, referral and financial services to military members and dependents in times of crisis.
  • Biomedical Services - Mobilizing donors to meet the blood supply needs of the community.
  • Disaster Preparedness and Response Program - Mobilizes the power of volunteers and generosity of donors to prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.

Barker Woods Enrichment Center
Provides infant education, physical therapy, speech therapy, transportation, home visits, and parents' training for children from birth to age 3 who are developmentally delayed and at risk.

Provides a place where youth can develop life skills in a safe and fun environment. Provides adult supervision to enhance success, character, belonging, and healthy lifestyles.

Provides a Christian response to human needs in La Porte County, through counseling, material assistance, advocacy and educational programs.

Short term emergency lodging and assistance in securing permanent housing.

  • Grace Learning Center - Literacy and life skills development. Helps those in need develop literacy and life skills.
  • Sand Castle Shelter for Children & Families - Provides a shelter for families and children.

Advocates for children and provides positive family support and education. Provides a variety of home visiting, case management, parenting education and body safety programs.
  • Parents As Teachers - A nuturting program that helps families in crisis to stabilize, build parenting skills and connect to supportive services.

Harmony House/CASA of LaPorte County
A safe haven for supervised visitations between parents and children through a caring, home-like setting which encourages positive family relationships. CASA promotes and supports quality volunteer representation for children involved in the court system through no fault of their own.

Works to enhance childcare options, make high-quality child care more accessible to all families in Michigan City and raise public awareness of the importance of the early childhood experience.

Puts Christian principals into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
  • YMCA Childcare and Learning Center - Low income tuition assistance. A play-based curriculum that nurtures the spirit, mind and body.

LaPorte County Meals on Wheels, Inc.
Volunteers deliver nutritious meals five days per week to homebound persons who cannot prepare adequate meals due to illness, disability, or age.
  • Meals on Wheels for seniors - M.C. and N. County. Provides meals for seniors and special needs adults.

Michiana Resources
Educational programs, vocational training, and sheltered employment opportunities to adults who are developmentally, emotionally, and/or physically disabled.

Open Door Adolescent Health Center
Provides health and mental health services on-site at Michigan City High School during the school day. The clinic also provides outreach and medical services to middle and elementary schools in the Michigan City Area Schools district.

Individualized program for development and enhancement of reading skills.
  • Tutoring Program in Reading, Math, and English by Volunteers - Provides adult tutoring services.

Provides food, clothing, shelter, utility assistance to individuals and families in time of crisis.
  • LaPorte Schools Backpack Food Program - Provides take-home weekend meals, during the school year, to familes whose students are on the free & reduced lunch program
